Milwaukee, WI – Drivers across Milwaukee could face rapidly deteriorating road conditions overnight Sunday as rain changes to snow and strong winds create blowing snow before the Monday morning commute.
Saturday remains mostly cloudy across southeastern Wisconsin with temperatures climbing to around 35°F. Conditions stay relatively calm through the afternoon before precipitation begins moving into the region later tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening. Rain is expected to develop after 1 p.m. Sunday, becoming widespread across the Milwaukee metro as temperatures hover in the upper 40s.
Colder air arrives Sunday night, allowing rain to mix with and change to snow after midnight, with heavier bursts possible through the overnight hours. Northwest winds may gust up to 45 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility along major routes including I-94, I-43, and I-794.
Snowfall totals could reach 1 to 2 inches, but strong winds may produce drifting snow and difficult travel conditions across Milwaukee County and surrounding areas.
Snow showers may linger Monday morning before gradually tapering later in the day. Temperatures remain cold with highs near 24°F, followed by bitter overnight lows near 8°F Monday night.
Brighter skies return Tuesday with sunshine and highs near 23°F, though additional light snow chances may return to southeastern Wisconsin later in the week. Additional advisories may be issued as the storm system develops.
