Chicago, IL – Drivers across Chicago could face slick roads and reduced visibility by the Monday morning commute as rain quickly changes to snow and gusty winds sweep across northeast Illinois.
Saturday remains mostly cloudy across the Chicago metro with a slight chance of snow showers between noon and 4 p.m. High temperatures reach around 38°F, with light winds shifting southeast during the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a much warmer and wetter system arrives Sunday. Temperatures climb to around 61°F with breezy conditions as showers and thunderstorms develop between 10 a.m. and early afternoon Sunday. Rain continues into Sunday night before colder air surges into northern Illinois.
Rain is expected to transition to snow after 4 a.m. Monday, bringing snow showers and areas of patchy blowing snow through the morning. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, which may reduce visibility along major routes including I-90, I-94, and Lake Shore Drive.
Snow accumulation is expected to remain under one inch, but the combination of gusty winds and falling temperatures could create slippery conditions during the early commute.
Colder air settles into the region Monday night with lows dropping to around 13°F. Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs near 26°F, while additional light snow chances may return to the Chicago area Tuesday night.
