West Bloomfield, Michigan – Police across southeast Michigan are increasing security Thursday as authorities respond to reports of a possible active shooter at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, prompting precautionary patrols in nearby communities.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and multiple agencies remain on scene at the synagogue while emergency personnel continue clearing the building after initial reports of an active shooter. Authorities have not confirmed injuries or whether shots were fired as the sweep continues.
The situation has triggered precautionary actions beyond Oakland County. According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, Chief Andre Anderson directed officers to increase patrols at houses of worship and schools throughout Ann Arbor as a proactive safety measure.
Temple Israel is located along Walnut Lake Road in a busy suburban area of Metro Detroit. Law enforcement vehicles and emergency responders secured the surrounding area as the investigation continues.
