De Beque, Colo. — A Texas kidnapping suspect wanted on a $1 million warrant was arrested in Mesa County.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies located and arrested a man allegedly wanted for kidnapping Tuesday afternoon in De Beque, a small community in eastern Mesa County.
Investigators said deputies learned March 9 that a possible wanted individual was traveling through Mesa County accompanied by two juveniles. Authorities identified the vehicle as a 2007 black GMC Yukon with Texas license plates.
Shortly before 1 p.m., Mesa County deputies located the vehicle at a gas station in De Beque.
At the same time, Garfield County law enforcement was notified that the vehicle may also pass through their jurisdiction, while Colorado State Patrol and the De Beque Marshal assisted in searching for the SUV across the area.
Deputies identified the suspect as Jerome Police Department fugitive Francisco Vargas Pegueros, who was wanted on a nationwide, $1 million cash-only warrant.
Authorities say Pegueros was allegedly wanted for second-degree kidnapping involving a 23-year-old victim in Texas.
Deputies took Pegueros into custody without incident and transported him to the Mesa County Detention Facility, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials said the kidnapping investigation itself remains under the jurisdiction of the Jerome Police Department, while Mesa County authorities assisted with locating and arresting the suspect.
The arrest involved coordination between the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, the De Beque Marshal, and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
