Greenville, Ohio – Darke County has launched a new emergency notification system designed to rapidly alert residents during dangerous or urgent situations.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, the county has selected Hyper-Reach, a mass emergency notification platform used by public safety agencies nationwide. Officials say the service is now fully operational and capable of delivering alerts within seconds to thousands of households across the county.

The system sends targeted emergency notifications through phone calls, text messages, and email, along with TTY/TDD accessibility for residents with hearing impairments. Hyper-Reach can also activate alerts through Alexa-enabled smart speakers and the FEMA Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system for most mobile phones manufactured since 2011.

County officials say the service will primarily be used to notify residents about weather emergencies, environmental hazards, criminal activity, and missing persons cases.

Landline telephones in Darke County are automatically enrolled to receive community alerts. However, officials say residents must opt in if they want to receive notifications on mobile phones or email.

Residents can register by:

  • Calling or texting “Alert” to 937-569-4409
  • Visiting the Darke County Sheriff’s Office or EMA website
  • Signing up through the Hyper-Reach registration page

The county also encourages residents to download the Hyper-Reach Anywhere smartphone app, which allows users to manage alerts for multiple addresses such as home, work, or relatives’ residences.

Emergency managers say the system is intended to improve response during rapidly developing situations and provide residents with immediate, location-specific information.

The alerts may be especially useful for students, commuters, and young workers who rely on mobile devices for real-time updates.

Residents with questions about the system can contact Darke County 911 Coordinator Melissa Hawes at 937-547-3911 or EMA Director Mindy Saylor at 937-548-1444.
