Las Vegas, Nevada – Widespread wind advisories are in effect across southern Nevada as strong northwest winds increase through Thursday.
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas reports winds picking up across the Mojave Desert this afternoon, with gusty north to northwest winds spreading through the southern Great Basin as a cold front moves across the region.
Peak wind gusts today and Thursday are forecast in the 40 to 60 mph range, with isolated higher gusts possible in wind-prone areas. The strongest winds are expected as the front pushes through Thursday.
The gusty conditions could impact high-profile vehicles along area highways, including portions of Interstate 15 and U.S. 95. Blowing dust may also reduce visibility in open desert areas.
Officials advise residents to secure loose outdoor items and use caution while driving, particularly in crosswind-prone corridors.
For commuters, delivery drivers and those with outdoor work plans, wind conditions may change quickly as the system moves through.
Wind advisories remain in place as forecasters continue to monitor the strength and timing of the frontal passage.
