Minneapolis, Minnesota – Rain is set to return across Minnesota on Friday, bringing a damp end to the workweek and the potential for slower travel across the Twin Cities and southern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, rain becomes likely Friday as a system moves through the Upper Midwest, with highs reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees before cooler air settles in Friday night. While no severe weather is expected at this time, steady rainfall could create slick stretches on major corridors including Interstate 94, Interstate 35W and Highway 52.

Statewide, the system will spread moisture from southern Minnesota northward through the day Friday. In Minneapolis and St. Paul, periods of rain may develop by late morning or early afternoon and continue into the evening commute. Areas along the I-90 corridor, including Rochester and Albert Lea, could see consistent rainfall through Friday night.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, keep headlights on during rainfall and watch for ponding on roadways. Temperatures dropping into the upper 20s to mid-30s Friday night may lead to isolated slick spots if lingering moisture remains.

Rain chances taper heading into Saturday, with drier and slightly cooler conditions expected. Additional updates will follow if advisories become necessary.
