DuPage County, Illinois – A judge denied pretrial release for a Glendale Heights man accused of stabbing his roommate, citing alleged violent conduct and prior release conditions.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge Michael Fleming on Tuesday granted a motion to detain Ernesto Granados, 29, following a hearing at First Appearance Court. Granados is charged with two counts of home invasion, one count of armed violence and one count of aggravated battery in connection with the Feb. 28 incident.

Prosecutors allege Granados had been released pretrial earlier that day on unrelated misdemeanor charges, including assault and disorderly conduct, with conditions that he not return to a residence in the 100 block of West Wrightwood Avenue.

Authorities allege that at approximately 2:58 p.m., about six hours after his release, Glendale Heights police responded to a disturbance call at the same address. Investigators allege Granados entered the home through a bedroom door while armed with a knife and stabbed the victim in the stomach before leaving.

Police took Granados into custody at the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said the case highlights concerns about pretrial release policies, while Glendale Heights Police Chief George Pappas described the incident as a serious act of violence. Both officials emphasized that the charges are allegations and that Granados is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Granados’ next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2026.

This case may draw attention from residents and young renters concerned about household safety and court release decisions.
