Forestport, NY – A 57-year-old Minoa man was injured early Friday in a snowmobile crash on Bear Creek Road, prompting a medical helicopter response and a citation for allegedly operating while intoxicated.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, deputies responded around 12:15 a.m. to a reported personal injury snowmobile accident in the Town of Forestport.

Investigators determined that Greg Beyer, 57, of Minoa, was operating a 2022 Lynx Rave snowmobile westbound on Bear Creek Road, Trail S71, when he struck a snowbank along the side of the roadway. Authorities said Beyer was ejected from the snowmobile and suffered back and chest injuries.

Beyer was transported from the scene by ambulance and later transferred to a LifeNet helicopter for transport to SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office DWI Unit responded to the hospital, where Beyer was allegedly issued a citation for snowmobiling while intoxicated. He is scheduled to appear in Forestport Town Court at a later date.

Assisting at the scene were the Woodgate Fire Department, Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and the New York State Police.

The crash temporarily drew emergency responders to the rural trail corridor, a route frequently used by recreational riders during winter months.
