Mobridge, South Dakota – Snow is steadily coating roads across north central South Dakota this morning, creating slick travel conditions that could impact highways and rural routes through noon CST Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Aberdeen, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST, or 11 a.m. MST in western areas, for Corson, Walworth and Faulk counties. Snow totals between 2 and 4 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible before precipitation tapers late this morning.

Roads in Mobridge, McIntosh and Faulkton are becoming snow-covered, particularly along U.S. Highway 12 and Highway 83. Bridges and overpasses will ice up first as temperatures hold below freezing. Untreated county roads and sidewalks may turn slick quickly, increasing the risk of crashes and falls.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and call 511 for updated road reports before heading out. Residents walking outdoors should use caution on stairs and driveways where thin ice may hide beneath fresh snow.

Snow should gradually diminish by late morning, but patchy icy stretches may linger into early afternoon. Additional updates are possible if heavier snow bands develop before the advisory expires.
