Dickinson, North Dakota – Snow-covered highways across western and south-central North Dakota will challenge early morning drivers, with up to 5 inches of accumulation creating slick conditions until 9 a.m. CST Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for a broad stretch of the state, including Williams, McKenzie, Stark, Morton and Mercer counties. Total snowfall between 2 and 5 inches is expected before the system moves out later this morning. The advisory runs until 9 a.m. CST, or 8 a.m. MST in western counties.
Roads in Dickinson, Williston, Watford City and Mandan are snow-covered in spots, especially along Interstate 94, Highway 85 and Highway 200. Secondary roads and rural routes near Beach, Medora and Hettinger may remain slick even after snowfall tapers. Untreated intersections and overpasses could refreeze quickly as temperatures stay below freezing.
Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance and check 511 for the latest road reports before heading out. Snow will diminish through midmorning, but patchy icy stretches may linger beyond the advisory window. Additional updates are possible if conditions fail to improve as expected.
