Iowa drivers will notice clouds thickening and temperatures hovering near 28 degrees this morning in Des Moines, with a band of snow poised to move in later today. Pavement remains mostly dry early, but that changes fast by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, a narrow band of snow will cross central Iowa through this evening. Parts of north-central into central Iowa could pick up 1 to 2 inches before midnight. Roads, especially along I-35 and I-80, may turn slick during the evening commute. Southern Iowa could also see pockets of freezing drizzle.

Highs reach 49 degrees today as skies gradually brighten before the next system approaches. Temperatures dip to 32 degrees tonight, allowing any leftover moisture to refreeze. Watch for classic flash-freeze spots on bridges and untreated side streets.

A strong spring tease builds Friday with sunshine and highs near 57 degrees. Snow piles shrink quickly, and runoff may pool near curbs. Saturday turns cooler with highs around 36 and a slight chance of snow before noon.

Another round of accumulating snow is possible Sunday into Monday morning. Current projections favor central to southern Iowa for the highest impacts. Sunday’s high stalls near 29 degrees, keeping roads cold enough for accumulation.

Early next week moderates, and the 6–10 day outlook hints at above-normal temperatures heading into early March, signaling gradual spring warmth after this late-winter stretch.
