Buffalo, NY – Snow is intensifying across the Tug Hill Plateau this afternoon, and another round of lake effect bands could stack up to 5 more inches before sunrise Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Oswego and Lewis counties until 7 a.m. EST Thursday. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected today along the Tug Hill Plateau, followed by localized lake effect snowfall tonight that could bring 2 to 5 inches in the most persistent bands.

Communities including Oswego and Lowville may see rapidly changing road conditions as narrow lake effect bands shift inland from Lake Ontario. Visibility can drop quickly in heavier bursts, especially along Interstate 81, Route 104 and higher elevations of Tug Hill. Areas just a few miles away may see lighter snow or breaks, making travel conditions unpredictable.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and prepare for snow-covered roads during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Check New York 511 for real-time road conditions before traveling.

Lake effect snow weakens after daybreak Thursday, but icy patches may linger on untreated surfaces.
