
Aurora, Illinois – Aurora police cited one business Wednesday after investigators checked nine locations during an alcohol and tobacco compliance operation aimed at preventing underage access.
According to an Aurora Police Department news release dated Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, the department’s Special Operations Group conducted an alcohol and tobacco compliance check at businesses throughout the city to ensure compliance with City of Aurora ordinances.
Police said one business was found to be non-compliant and was cited for violating ordinances related to the sale of alcohol or tobacco products. A Notice to Appear was issued, and the case will be addressed through the court process, the department said.
The cited business was Smokes R Us, located at 3150 N. Aurora Road, Unit F, police said.
The department said the following businesses were found to be in compliance during the operation: BP, 999 W. Illinois Ave.; Shell, 905 W. Illinois Ave.; Shell, 320 W. Galena Blvd.; Maya’s World Smokes and Vapes, 261 E. Indian Trail Road; Randall Liquors, 1040 N. Farnsworth Ave.; Shell, 420 N. Farnsworth Ave.; Papa Jay’s Smoke Shop, 4432 E. New York St.; and BP, 2595 Ogden Ave.
“Compliance checks like these are an important part of protecting our community and ensuring businesses are following the law,” Special Operations Group Lt. Christopher McWilliams said in the release. He added that police appreciate the cooperation of businesses found to be in compliance and will continue efforts to discourage underage access to alcohol and tobacco.
Police said the Special Operations Group also conducts proactive investigations and outreach focused on reducing violent crime, gang activity, illegal firearms and narcotics.
For students and young workers, the department said the checks are part of broader prevention efforts that can affect retail practices and ID enforcement citywide.
