Davenport, Iowa – Snow is expected tonight mainly south of US-30, with slick travel possible into the Thursday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, snowfall chances range from 60% to 90% Wednesday evening into early Thursday. A narrow band of 1 to 2 inches is possible across parts of southeast Iowa, including areas near Burlington and Ottumwa.
Communities near Davenport, Iowa City, and Moline could see lighter totals under 1 inch. Forecasters say snow may transition to freezing drizzle late tonight, particularly along and south of an Ottumwa-to-Galesburg line.
The primary timing window runs from 8 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday, with some slick conditions lingering into the early commute hours.
Bridges, overpasses, sidewalks, and untreated secondary roads may become slippery, especially along Interstate 80, Interstate 74, and US-61. Temperatures are expected to rise above 32 degrees by mid to late Thursday morning, which could gradually improve conditions.
The NWS also highlighted that less snowfall does not eliminate crash risk. State data shows nearly 75% of weather-related crashes in Iowa occurred in less than 2 inches of snow.
Early morning commuters, delivery drivers, and students traveling along I-80 and US-34 should allow extra stopping distance and monitor changing road conditions.
