Jamestown, New York – Snow-covered roads will slow drivers across western and north-central New York through midweek, with another 3 to 5 inches falling tonight and up to 7 inches piling up east of Lake Ontario by Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Chautauqua County until 6 a.m. Tuesday, with an additional 1 to 2 inches along the Chautauqua Ridge before daybreak. A Winter Weather Advisory then takes over from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming and Southern Erie counties, including Jamestown, Olean, Warsaw and Orchard Park. Higher terrain will see the greatest accumulation.
Roads along Interstate 86, U.S. Route 219 and the Boston Hills may become snow-covered again Tuesday night, impacting both the evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Along the Lake Erie shoreline, totals will run lower but slick stretches are still likely.
Farther east, Oswego and Lewis counties enter a Winter Weather Advisory from 1 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday. The Tug Hill Plateau could pick up 4 to 7 inches, creating difficult travel on Route 177 and Interstate 81 near Pulaski and Lowville.
Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra braking distance and prepare for limited visibility in heavier bands. Additional lake-enhanced snow could prolong impacts into Thursday morning.
