Freehold, New Jersey – Snow-clogged highways and powerful coastal wind gusts are disrupting travel across New Jersey after a Sunday winter storm dropped more than 2 feet of snow in parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, Freehold in Monmouth County recorded 24.2 inches of snow as of 11 a.m. EST Monday. Newark reported 18.3 inches, while Atlantic City measured 14.5 inches. Coastal communities also experienced strong winds, including a 70 mph gust at Barnegat Inlet and 60 mph in Atlantic City.

Heavy snowfall created near whiteout conditions at times Sunday night along the Garden State Parkway, Interstate 95, and sections of Interstate 78. Blowing and drifting snow continue to reduce visibility across central and northern New Jersey, especially on exposed roadways and bridges.

The combination of heavy snow and strong winds has led to scattered power outages, particularly in coastal Ocean and Monmouth counties where gusts toppled tree limbs. Utility crews are working to restore service as temperatures remain below freezing, increasing the risk of refreeze on untreated roads.

State officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel while plow crews clear secondary roads. Additional local snowfall reports may be finalized later Monday as cleanup operations continue statewide.
