Bridgeport, Connecticut – Snow-covered interstates and wind gusts over 50 mph are creating hazardous travel across Connecticut after a powerful Sunday winter storm dropped more than a foot of snow along the I-95 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, Bridgeport and New Haven each recorded 16.0 inches of snow as of 11 a.m. EST Monday. Inland areas saw slightly lower totals, while Hartford reported wind gusts up to 51 mph. Windsor Locks measured gusts reaching 54 mph as the storm intensified overnight.
Heavy bands of snow reduced visibility to under a half mile at times Sunday, especially along Interstate 95, Interstate 91, and the Merritt Parkway. Blowing and drifting snow continue to impact exposed bridges and secondary roads across Fairfield and New Haven counties.
The strong winds snapped tree limbs and triggered scattered power outages, particularly in coastal communities where wet snow clung to branches and lines. Utility crews are working to restore service as temperatures remain cold enough to refreeze untreated surfaces.
State officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel while plow crews continue clearing neighborhood streets. Additional snowfall reports may be finalized later Monday as cleanup operations continue statewide.
