Bend, Ore. – A 54-year-old Eagle Crest man was arrested Friday after multiple attempts to elude law enforcement in Deschutes County prompted a multi-agency pursuit.
According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, deputies first attempted to stop a passenger vehicle in Sisters at 8:12 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, after the driver was allegedly operating aggressively, including brake-checking a patrol unit and driving over a roundabout. The driver failed to yield and continued through Sisters. Deputies did not immediately pursue, and the vehicle was last seen heading west on Highway 20 near Black Butte.
At 8:53 a.m., the same vehicle was spotted returning to Sisters. Deputies, assisted by Oregon State Police and the Black Butte Police Department, attempted another traffic stop. The driver allegedly fled eastbound on Highway 20, prompting a pursuit. Deputies used a Pursuit Intervention Technique maneuver, but authorities said the driver regained control and continued at a high rate of speed. The pursuit was terminated as the vehicle approached Tumalo and Bend due to public safety concerns.
At 11:07 a.m., a citizen in Eagle Crest reported a vehicle following them in a manner that caused concern. Deputies located the vehicle and deployed spike strips. A second PIT maneuver stopped the car on Eagle Crest Boulevard.
The driver, identified as Doug R. Greaser, 54, of Eagle Crest, allegedly resisted arrest but was taken into custody and transported to St. Charles-Bend. He faces three counts of felony attempt to elude, three counts of reckless driving, multiple counts of reckless endangering, and assault on a police officer.
The investigation remains ongoing.
