Winnipeg, Manitoba – Two people were arrested after alleged vandalism caused flooding inside Winnipeg Police headquarters Saturday evening.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. at the headquarters tower at 266 Graham Ave. Although it was after regular public reporting hours, officials said the flooding impacted multiple working spaces inside the building.

Preliminary information initially suggested a potential watermain break or burst upper-level pipe. However, investigators later determined that two individuals allegedly opened several emergency water supply valves in upper stairwells of the adjoining tower building at the same address.

Police said water pressure quickly built up inside the pipes, forcing water into stairwells and office areas. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews secured the compromised valves. Authorities said the release of water caused extensive damage, though the full extent remains under assessment.

Officers located two suspects in the 200 block of Graham Avenue just after 11 p.m. and turned them over to the Major Crimes Unit.

A 51-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman are both charged with mischief over $5,000 and were released on undertakings.

Police said uniform operations will not be affected. However, in-person reporting at Station Duty, 245 Smith St., is closed Sunday, Feb. 16. Updates will be provided as damage assessments continue. Residents requiring police services are advised to call 911 in emergencies or 204-986-6222 for non-emergency matters.

The incident may impact downtown workers and students who rely on in-person reporting services.
