Bandon, Oregon – A late-night motorcycle pursuit on U.S. Highway 101 ended in a crash and arrest Saturday night, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident began at approximately 11:58 p.m. Saturday when a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a green 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle for allegedly speeding well above the posted 55 mph limit near Upper Four Mile Lane, south of Bandon.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the motorcycle fled and a pursuit was initiated. The rider turned onto Bethel Mountain Road and then Maple Lane, continuing at high speed. Deputies said the motorcycle struck potholes along the muddy roadway and caught air before the operator lost control and crashed into a dirt embankment.
The rider was later identified as JD W. Easley, 43. Authorities said Easley allegedly attempted to flee on foot after the crash. The deputy pursued him on foot, caught him and placed him under arrest.
Investigators later learned Easley had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, which was confirmed. He was also charged with Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, Attempting to Elude by Foot and Reckless Driving.
Easley was transported to the Coos County Jail. The motorcycle was towed from the scene by Mast Brothers Towing. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Bandon Police Department for assistance.
All charges are allegations. All persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
