Marquette, Michigan – Snowbanks will shrink quickly along US-41 this afternoon as temperatures climb into the mid-40s, but drivers could see light snow develop after midnight Sunday across the Upper Peninsula.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, highs Sunday will range from 35 to 45 degrees under mostly sunny skies, with the warmest readings across interior western and central sections of the U.P. Roads including US-41 from Marquette to Houghton and M-28 toward Munising will remain mainly dry through the evening as pavement temperatures rise above freezing.
Clouds will increase late Sunday night as a weak system tracks north of Lake Superior. Lows will fall into the 23 to 32 degree range, with the warmest overnight readings in western counties. A slight chance of light snow develops after midnight, especially north of M-28 and closer to Lake Superior. Any snowfall amounts are expected to remain minimal, but isolated slick spots could form on bridges and untreated secondary roads by early Monday morning.
Drivers traveling along I-75 near the Straits or US-2 in the southern U.P. should remain alert for brief reductions in visibility if light snow develops overnight.
Conditions trend dry again Monday afternoon with gradual clearing. No significant accumulation is expected, but additional weak disturbances could brush the region later in the week.
