Melting improves by midday, but temperatures drop back to around 29 degrees tonight. That sets up another refreeze risk late tonight into early Saturday.
Saturday feels noticeably milder. Highs reach 50 degrees under partly sunny skies with light southwest winds. Saturday night turns mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of rain after 1 a.m. Any rainfall looks light, with less than a tenth of an inch possible.
By Sunday afternoon, rain chances increase to 40 percent with highs near 51 degrees. Most of the precipitation should remain liquid, but colder pockets north of the metro could briefly mix if temperatures hover close to freezing. Plan extra time if traveling Sunday evening.
Washington’s Birthday brings mostly sunny skies and a strong rebound to 56 degrees. Monday night dips to 36 degrees. Tuesday continues the warming trend, reaching 59 degrees with partial sunshine.
