Missouri – Standing water is already covering roads across parts of the Kansas City metro, and more rain and storms could quickly worsen travel conditions through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, a flood warning remains in effect until midday for counties including Jackson, Cass, and Johnson, where creeks and low-lying roads are already inundated. Additional showers and thunderstorms will continue through today, with gusty winds reaching 35 to 40 mph.

Across Kansas City, Independence, and Overland Park, drivers along I-70, I-435, and US-71 should expect water-covered roads and sudden slowdowns. Several local roads remain closed due to flooding, especially near creeks and poor drainage zones. Do not attempt to drive through high water.

Storm chances continue into the afternoon with the potential for isolated stronger cells developing along a passing front. While the severe threat remains conditional, any storm could produce brief heavy rain that worsens flooding.

Temperatures rise into the mid-70s before cooler air arrives tonight. Showers taper into early Saturday, followed by clearing skies and calmer weather by Sunday, with sunshine and highs near the low 60s.

Looking ahead, early next week stays mild before another system brings a rain-to-snow chance by Monday night into Tuesday, a reminder that early spring can still swing sharply.

Keep alerts enabled and avoid flooded routes. Conditions may change quickly through the day. Are you seeing road closures or high water in your area?

Five Day Outlook for Kansas City, Missouri

Saturday: High near 54°F, clearing and cooler
Sunday: High near 62°F, sunny
Monday: High near 55°F, mostly sunny
