Pueblo, Colorado – Snow is expected to develop along the Continental Divide this afternoon, with 2 to 6 inches possible in the central mountains and San Juans by Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, warmer temperatures are returning to the plains Wednesday, while snow chances increase across higher elevations later today and into tonight.

Forecast totals range from around 2 to 6 inches for portions of the central mountains and the San Juan Mountains. Additional precipitation chances are expected to expand across southern Colorado Friday and Saturday as the unsettled pattern continues.

Drivers traveling along U.S. Highway 50 west of Pueblo, Interstate 25 near Walsenburg, U.S. Route 285 near Salida, and U.S. Highway 160 through the San Juans should prepare for snow-packed roads and reduced visibility, especially at higher elevations.

Across the plains, including Pueblo and Colorado Springs along I-25, temperatures will trend warmer Wednesday with highs climbing into the 50s and lower 60s before cooler air returns with the next system.

While lower elevations may initially see rain or mixed precipitation, accumulating snow will remain primarily confined to the mountains.

Travelers crossing mountain passes late today through Friday morning should monitor updated winter weather highlights and road conditions.

Commuters, freight haulers, and ski travelers heading into the high country should allow extra travel time during periods of active snowfall.
