Spokane County, Washington – A felony theft investigation that began at a north Spokane Valley store ended with an arrest after an automated license plate reader alert helped deputies locate the suspect.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, a loss prevention employee reported a theft at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 21 at a business in the 14400 block of North Newport Highway. The suspect allegedly entered the store, selected several tools valued at about $780, concealed them in his jacket, and exited without paying.

Store surveillance video reviewed by a Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) analyst showed a white four-door pickup truck associated with the theft. Using Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology and other law enforcement databases, investigators identified a possible suspect vehicle—a white 2008 Nissan Frontier with Texas license plates—and a possible suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Jared J. Munroe.

On Feb. 5, a Spokane County Sheriff’s Investigative Unit detective began actively working the case, reviewing reports, surveillance footage, ALPR data, body camera video, and booking photos. Investigators developed probable cause to arrest Munroe for Theft in the Second Degree, a felony, and entered alerts into law enforcement systems.

On Feb. 8 at approximately 10:25 p.m., the Spokane Regional Emergency Communications Center notified Spokane County and Spokane Valley sheriff’s deputies of an ALPR alert indicating the Nissan Frontier was traveling north on Sullivan Road. Deputies located the truck in a gas station parking lot, confirmed the license plate, and detained the driver without incident.

Munroe was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of Theft in the Second Degree. An adult female passenger was detained and later released without charges. The truck and its contents were seized as evidence pending a search warrant.

The investigation remains active, and additional charges are possible.
