Rensselaer, Indiana – A Rensselaer man was arrested on multiple felony charges following a reported domestic assault at a city residence earlier this year.

According to the Rensselaer Police Department, officers responded around 4:15 a.m. on January 11 to a home in the 500 block of North Weston Street after a woman reported being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, identified as Jesus Martinez-Campos, 24.

Police said the victim reported that Martinez-Campos allegedly entered her residence unlawfully and forcibly removed her from the home by pulling her sweatshirt hood and dragging her outside. She also reported that dirt and snow were smeared into her face during the incident.

Officers observed dirt on the victim’s face, a head laceration, a cut lip, and markings around her neck, which police believe resulted from being forced outside. The victim also disclosed previous incidents of alleged domestic violence involving Martinez-Campos, including prior occasions when he had illegally entered the residence and battered her.

Police said a nearby resident reported being awakened by the disturbance, followed shortly by the victim ringing their doorbell seeking help.

A formal report was filed with the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was later issued. Martinez-Campos was located on February 9 and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

He was booked on charges including burglary, criminal confinement, strangulation, domestic battery, intimidation—all felony charges—and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation began weeks earlier and that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The case remains pending in the Jasper County judicial system.
