Manhattan, Illinois – A Manhattan man has been arrested on multiple felony charges after police say a concealed camera was discovered inside a bathroom ceiling during a New Year’s Eve gathering.
According to the Village of Manhattan Police Department, officers responded Jan. 1 to a report of suspicious circumstances at a residence in the 24400 block of Arrowhead Drive. Police allege a concealed camera was found inside a bathroom at the home, discovered in an inconspicuous location following a New Year’s Eve party.
After additional evidence was gathered during the investigation, police said a search warrant was executed at the residence on Jan. 6.
With assistance from the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, authorities approved 14 felony counts of Unauthorized Video Recording. Manhattan police subsequently arrested Jonathan Wisniewski, 44, of the same Arrowhead Drive address.
Police allege Wisniewski recorded individuals without their knowledge or consent. The charges include nine counts of Unauthorized Video Recording, a Class 3 felony involving juvenile victims, and five counts of Unauthorized Video Recording, a Class 4 felony involving adult victims, according to the department.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing. Following the filing of charges, Wisniewski was ordered detained and transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility pending a detention hearing.
Police are asking anyone who believes they may be a victim of a similar offense, or who has additional information related to the investigation, to contact the Manhattan Police Department at 815-478-3226.
Officials emphasized that the charges are allegations and that Wisniewski is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
