Cass County, Indiana – A three-vehicle crash on U.S. 35 partially blocked traffic Tuesday evening and left two people injured, one seriously, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched at approximately 6:34 p.m. Tuesday after Central Dispatch received a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment on U.S. 35 at County Road 1100 South. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded along with Logansport Police, Galveston Fire Department and Cass County Emergency Medical Services.

Authorities said an initial scene assessment revealed a three-vehicle crash that partially blocked U.S. 35.

According to a preliminary investigation by Deputy Michael Thomison, 50-year-old Tiffany Baker of Galveston was driving northbound on U.S. 35 in a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and stopped at County Road 1100 South to make a westbound turn. The Jeep was rear-ended by a 2017 Nissan Altima driven by 45-year-old Martha Barton of Royal Center.

Investigators said the impact pushed the Jeep into a southbound 2019 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 54-year-old Andrew Brooks of Converse.

Barton sustained serious injuries and was extricated from her vehicle by firefighters before being flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Baker was transported by ambulance to Ascension Saint Vincent Hospital in Kokomo for treatment. Brooks was uninjured and declined medical care at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing and that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
