Flagstaff, Arizona – Warm temperatures and gusty northeast winds are expected across northern Arizona today, potentially affecting travel conditions along major highways, particularly during the afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, mostly sunny skies and above-average temperatures are forecast for Wednesday, with daytime highs climbing into the 50s and 60s at lower elevations and remaining cooler at higher terrain. Winds will increase through the day, with sustained northeast winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour and gusts reaching 20 to 30 mph. Locally stronger gusts are possible, especially along and south of higher terrain.

The strongest winds are expected near key travel corridors including Interstate 40, U.S. Highway 89, State Route 89A, and State Route 64, impacting travel through Flagstaff, Winslow, Williams, and nearby communities. High-profile vehicles such as trucks, RVs, and vehicles towing trailers may experience sudden crosswinds, particularly in exposed areas.

While no precipitation is expected, forecasters note that dry conditions combined with gusty winds could lead to blowing dust in isolated locations, briefly reducing visibility on open stretches of roadway. Drivers are advised to keep both hands on the steering wheel and remain alert for changing wind conditions.

The National Weather Service reports that winds should gradually ease later this evening as temperatures cool overnight. No weather advisories or warnings are currently in effect, but motorists are encouraged to remain cautious during peak wind periods.

The warm and breezy conditions may be noticeable for commuters, students, and travelers along I-40 during afternoon and early evening hours, when wind gusts are most likely.

This forecast is based on guidance issued Wednesday morning and reflects expected conditions for northern Arizona today. Updates will be provided if wind speeds increase or advisories become necessary.
