Ohio — Snowflakes thicken quickly across the Ohio Valley, coating roads and rooftops as the morning commute turns slick. Tires hiss on wet pavement, and visibility drops at times as snow falls steadily.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through this evening for southwest and central Ohio, including the Cincinnati metro. Snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. The heaviest snow targets the morning and evening travel windows.
Conditions deteriorate fast on untreated roads. Interstates I-71, I-74, and I-75 may see slushy lanes and reduced traction. Bridges and overpasses freeze first. Drivers should slow down and allow extra stopping distance, especially during peak traffic hours.
Snow gradually tapers later today, but lingering slick spots remain tonight as temperatures fall into the teens. Any daytime melting refreezes quickly, raising the risk of black ice on side streets and parking lots.
By Wednesday, sunshine returns and travel improves. Highs reach the mid-20s, keeping snow cover intact. Calm conditions continue into Wednesday night, setting the stage for a noticeable shift.
Thursday brings a rebound. Temperatures climb into the upper 20s with partly sunny skies. Roads improve, though melting snow may create wet patches. Once temperatures drop again Thursday night, refreezing becomes possible.
Friday turns milder. Highs approach 40 degrees, offering a brief break from winter’s grip. Snowmelt increases, but drivers should remain alert after sunset when temperatures fall.
Looking ahead to the Feb. 6–8 weekend, conditions trend quieter with seasonable cold and no major storms signaled yet. NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook shows above-normal temperatures pushing toward the Midwest late next week, hinting at a broader thaw.
If traveling today, plan extra time and use caution. Are road conditions improving where you are?
