Houston, Texas – A passing cold front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms across the Houston area Tuesday, potentially affecting travel along major roadways including Interstate 45, U.S. 59, and Interstate 10.

According to the National Weather Service Houston-Galveston office, rain chances increase Tuesday as a frontal boundary moves south through Southeast Texas. Forecast graphics indicate rain probabilities of 50% to 70% across much of the region during the daytime and evening hours, with the highest coverage north and east of Houston.

Daytime temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach the upper 60s to low 70s, followed by cooler conditions overnight as the front passes. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall into the upper 40s to low 50s, particularly north of Beltway 8 and along rural stretches of State Highway 105 and Highway 59.

Thunderstorms Tuesday evening could lead to brief heavy rainfall, which may cause reduced visibility and slick road conditions during the afternoon and evening commute. Motorists traveling along I-45 between downtown Houston and The Woodlands or US-59 toward Livingston and Liberty should plan for potential slowdowns.

Rain chances taper off late Tuesday night into early Wednesday, with drier and cooler weather expected through Thursday. Forecast data shows daytime highs cooling into the 60s midweek before a gradual warming trend begins Friday.

The National Weather Service noted that no severe weather is currently indicated, but isolated thunderstorms may still produce brief downpours.

This weather pattern may be especially relevant for commuters, students, and evening shift workers traveling during peak rain periods Tuesday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and allow extra travel time during periods of rain.
