East Central Florida – Extreme cold, freeze warnings, and dangerous marine conditions are impacting East Central Florida through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Melbourne, Extreme Cold Warnings and Freeze Warnings remain in effect across much of the region, including Volusia, Lake, Seminole, Orange, Osceola, Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee counties. Low temperatures between 22 and 30 degrees are expected, with dangerous wind chills ranging from 9 to 21 degrees, particularly overnight and during the early morning hours.
Forecasters said daily record low temperatures have already been broken at several climate sites, with temperatures struggling to rise out of the 40s to low 50s Sunday afternoon before another hard freeze Sunday night into Monday morning. Conditions are especially hazardous along travel corridors including Interstate 4, Interstate 95, and U.S. Highway 1, where prolonged cold may impact exposed infrastructure.
Along the coast and offshore waters, dangerous boating conditions continue. The National Weather Service warned of northwest winds of 25 to 35 knots with frequent gusts to gale force (35–45 knots). Nearshore seas of 6 to 10 feet and Gulf Stream seas of 12 to 17 feet are expected from Flagler Beach to Jupiter Inlet, making marine travel hazardous through early Sunday afternoon. Residents are urged to stay off the water and secure vessels.
Beachgoers, commuters, students, and young workers are advised to limit time outdoors, protect pets and plants, and take precautions to prevent frozen pipes. Boaters and coastal residents should closely monitor conditions and avoid flooded or icy roadways near the coast.
The National Weather Service emphasized that the combination of prolonged sub-freezing temperatures, strong winds, and hazardous seas increases risks to people, property, and infrastructure.
