Glasgow, Montana — A mix of freezing rain, light snow, and light rain is creating hazardous travel conditions across northeastern Montana this morning, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory that remains in effect until 2 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Glasgow.

Forecasters say trace ice accumulations up to 0.10 inches are possible, particularly during the morning hours, as surface temperatures remain below freezing. Even small amounts of ice can significantly increase the risk of crashes, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

The advisory area includes Glasgow and surrounding communities such as Wolf Point, Sidney, Circle, Scobey, Culbertson, and Plentywood, with impacts extending along key travel routes including U.S. Highway 2, Montana Highway 200, and regional secondary roads. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distances, and be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, the combination of freezing rain and snow can produce slick and unpredictable driving conditions. Road crews may have difficulty keeping up with treatment during periods of freezing precipitation, particularly in rural areas.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve later this afternoon as temperatures rise and precipitation tapers off. However, shaded areas may remain icy even after precipitation ends.

The National Weather Service advises residents to delay non-essential travel this morning if possible and to use extra caution if driving is necessary. Pedestrians should also watch for icy sidewalks and parking lots.

Looking ahead, colder and quieter weather is expected to return following this system, with additional winter conditions possible later in the weekend and early next week.

Stay tuned to local forecasts and road condition updates as this winter weather event continues to evolve.
