Houston, Texas – Dangerous cold conditions continue across Southeast Texas as a Freeze Watch and Cold Weather Advisory remain in effect through Sunday morning, bringing wind chills into the teens and widespread hard freeze temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston, wind chills are expected to fall into the upper teens and lower 20s across much of the region, with some inland locations briefly dropping to around 14 degrees. Overnight low temperatures are forecast between 19 and 24 degrees in areas under the Freeze Watch, which is in effect from 9 p.m. Saturday through 9 a.m. Sunday.

The Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect early Saturday, covering most of Southeast Texas from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m., with wind chills ranging from 14 to 24 degrees and air temperatures as low as 24 degrees. Hard freeze conditions are likely across inland counties, including areas along and north of Interstate 10, Highway 6, and Interstate 45.

Officials warn that prolonged exposure to these temperatures can be dangerous. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur quickly when wind chills fall into the teens. Residents are urged to dress in warm layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors, especially during overnight and early morning hours.

The National Weather Service also advises protecting the “four Ps” — people, pets, plants, and pipes. Pets should be brought indoors, plants covered or moved inside, and pipes wrapped or allowed to drip to prevent freezing. Space heaters should be used cautiously, kept away from flammable materials, and paired with working carbon monoxide detectors.

Travelers and early-morning commuters on major roadways, including I-10, I-45, and the Grand Parkway, should be prepared for bitter cold conditions through Sunday morning. Temperatures are expected to gradually recover later Sunday, but cold weather safety precautions remain critical until then.
