Atlanta, Georgia – A Cold Weather Advisory will take effect across north and central Georgia tonight, bringing dangerously cold wind chills through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City reports the advisory will be in effect from 8 p.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday. During that time, “feels like” temperatures are expected to range from 0 to 15 degrees, with wind chills as low as -5 degrees in the north Georgia mountains.
Overnight low temperatures will fall well below freezing, and forecasters warn that below-freezing conditions may persist through midday Tuesday, increasing the risk of pipe bursts, cold-related illnesses, and hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
The advisory covers metro Atlanta and much of north and central Georgia, where officials also caution that travel may remain hazardous in parts of northeast Georgia due to lingering ice on roadways from recent winter weather. Refreezing is possible overnight where moisture remains.
The cold poses elevated risks for early-morning commuters, outdoor workers, students, and unhoused residents, particularly during the pre-dawn hours when wind chills will be lowest.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, bring pets indoors, and protect pipes by allowing faucets to drip and opening cabinet doors where plumbing is exposed. Drivers should use caution overnight and early Tuesday, especially on bridges and elevated roads.
Forecasters say gradual improvement is expected later Tuesday, but cold conditions will remain a concern through the morning hours.
