Shreveport, Louisiana – An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect through Tuesday morning across the Four State Region, where overnight lows between 3°F and 17°F could trigger hypothermia in minutes for anyone outside unprotected.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, winds are expected to remain calm overnight, reducing the risk of additional wind chills but not lessening the threat of frostbite. The cold is widespread, impacting communities from Texarkana and Mount Pleasant to Monroe, Natchitoches, and Tyler.
Utility companies and emergency responders across Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas, and Northern Louisiana are urging residents to protect vulnerable populations, pets, plants, and pipes. Warming shelters have been activated in several cities including Longview and El Dorado, and residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure and insulate plumbing.
Local officials are reminding drivers to keep emergency blankets and extra clothing in vehicles in case of breakdowns. Prolonged exposure to temperatures in the single digits can result in frostbite on exposed skin in less than 30 minutes.
Temperatures are expected to gradually rise by Tuesday afternoon, but additional advisories could be issued if conditions persist.
