Delaware – A prolonged winter storm brought moderate but impactful snowfall across Delaware from January 23 through January 26, with top totals reaching 8 inches, according to compiled storm reports.

The highest snowfall total reported in the state was 8.0 inches in New Castle, making it the snowiest observed location in Delaware during the multi-day event. Several nearby communities in New Castle County recorded totals between 7 and 8 inches, highlighting the storm’s greatest impact across northern portions of the state.

Additional high-end reports include 7.4 inches in Pike Creek, while Dover Air Force Base measured 6.5 inches. New Castle County Airport and Odessa also reported 6.5 inches, reflecting consistent snowfall totals across much of central and northern Delaware.

Snowfall totals generally ranged from 6 to 8 inches statewide, with slightly lower amounts toward southern coastal areas. Snow accumulated steadily over multiple days rather than falling in a single intense burst, extending travel impacts and snow removal operations.

Road conditions deteriorated across major corridors including Interstates 95 and 495, as well as U.S. Route 13 and Route 1, particularly during overnight and early morning hours. Snow-covered lanes, reduced visibility, and ongoing plowing operations slowed travel across urban and suburban areas.

Cleanup efforts continued after snowfall ended as cold temperatures limited melting, allowing snowpack to persist on secondary roads, sidewalks, and parking areas. Snowbanks narrowed roadways and reduced visibility at intersections, adding to lingering safety concerns.

The January 23–26 storm ranks among the more notable winter snow events of the season for Delaware, contributing meaningfully to seasonal snowfall totals, particularly across New Castle County
