Greenville, South Carolina – Residents across the Upstate are being urged to prepare immediately as a potentially crippling ice storm moves into the region, threatening dangerous travel conditions and widespread power outages.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville–Spartanburg, an Ice Storm Warning is in effect as ice accumulations of 0.50 to 0.75 inches are forecast across Greenville and surrounding counties. Some localized areas could see even higher amounts, especially at higher elevations.

Forecasters say ice will be the primary threat, with significant icing expected to coat roads, trees, and power lines. Accumulating sleet will add to impacts but will not reduce the danger. Officials warn that travel could become dangerous or impossible, particularly overnight and into Saturday.

The storm is expected to lead to widespread power outages, with some outages potentially lasting several days due to downed trees and snapped power lines. Commerce and daily services may be severely disrupted.

Residents are strongly encouraged to complete preparations today, avoid travel once conditions deteriorate, and keep emergency supplies on hand, including food, water, blankets, and flashlights.

Conditions are expected to remain hazardous through Saturday, with recovery likely slow.
