Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A major winter storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall and dangerous travel conditions across the Pittsburgh region and surrounding states beginning Saturday night, with impacts lasting into Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday until noon Monday for large portions of eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Snow accumulations between 9 and 14 inches are expected across the region, including the Pittsburgh metro area, Beaver, Butler, Washington, Greene, Allegheny, Mercer, and Lawrence counties, as well as nearby areas of Ohio and West Virginia.
Regional impacts are expected to be widespread. Snow will overspread the area Saturday night and intensify Sunday, leading to snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and hazardous driving conditions. Major travel routes including Interstate 79, Interstate 70, Interstate 76, and Interstate 80 may become difficult or nearly impassable at times as snowfall rates increase.
Communities including Pittsburgh, Washington, Butler, Beaver Falls, New Castle, Wheeling, Steubenville, and Zanesville should prepare for prolonged winter conditions. Emergency officials warn that travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially late Sunday night into Monday morning, directly impacting the Monday commute.
Residents are urged to delay unnecessary travel, prepare vehicles with winter emergency supplies, and monitor local alerts closely. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Monday midday, and additional advisories may follow as the storm evolves across the region.
