New York, New York – A powerful winter storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall and dangerous travel conditions across the New York City metro area and nearby parts of New Jersey beginning early Sunday, with impacts lasting through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 3 a.m. Sunday until 6 p.m. Monday for much of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York. Snowfall totals of 10 to 14 inches are expected across the region, including New York City, Long Island, southern Westchester County, and portions of northeastern New Jersey.

Regionwide impacts will center on travel and visibility. Snow is expected to intensify Sunday morning, with periods of heavy snowfall capable of dropping visibility below a quarter mile. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads are likely to become slick and hazardous. A brief changeover to a wintry mix Sunday evening could add sleet and a light glaze of ice before snow redevelops later Sunday night.

Within the city, conditions are expected to deteriorate across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island, with similar impacts across Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island. Isolated wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph are possible across eastern Long Island, which could lead to blowing snow and localized power disruptions.

Officials urge residents to delay travel from Sunday into Monday if possible, prepare vehicles for winter conditions, and have emergency supplies ready. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Monday evening, and additional updates may be issued as the storm evolves.
