Amarillo, Texas – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, with heavy snow and light ice expected through early Sunday, creating dangerous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are forecast, along with a light glaze of ice. The warning covers large portions of the Texas Panhandle and the Oklahoma Panhandle, including communities such as Amarillo, Pampa, Borger, Canyon, Dumas, Perryton, Shamrock, Canadian, Guymon, Beaver, and surrounding rural areas.

The warning is in effect until 6 a.m. CST Sunday. Forecasters say roads are likely to become slick and hazardous, particularly bridges and overpasses, where ice can develop quickly. Travel may become very difficult at times, especially during the Friday morning and evening commute periods.

The National Weather Service warns that hazardous conditions could persist as snowfall continues and temperatures remain cold enough for ice to linger. Even untreated roads may remain slippery well after snowfall slows.

Motorists are urged to consider delaying all travel. For those who must be on the road, officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including a flashlight, food, and water. Drivers in Oklahoma can call 844-465-4997 for road conditions, while Texas road information is available at 800-452-9292.

Local and state transportation agencies may issue additional advisories as conditions change. Residents across the region are encouraged to monitor official National Weather Service updates and prepare for prolonged winter travel impacts.
