Indianapolis, Indiana – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of central Indiana as a significant snowstorm is expected to impact the region from Saturday through Sunday, creating dangerous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, confidence is high that much of central Indiana will receive at least 6 inches of snow, with localized totals approaching 10 inches across southern portions of the state. Forecasters caution that while some uncertainty remains in exact snowfall amounts, impacts are expected to be significant.

Snow is forecast to begin spreading into southwestern and central Indiana late Saturday morning, overspreading the region Saturday afternoon. Snowfall rates are expected to intensify Saturday night, with moderate to heavy snow continuing into Sunday morning. The greatest impacts are expected late Saturday night through Sunday afternoon before snow gradually tapers Sunday evening into overnight.

The Winter Storm Warning replaces a previous Winter Storm Watch, reflecting increased confidence in heavy snow and high-impact conditions. The warning begins as early as midday Saturday in southern areas and by Saturday evening farther north.

The National Weather Service warns that roads may become difficult or impassable at times, especially Sunday, due to heavy snowfall and reduced visibility. Cold temperatures following the storm may prolong slick and hazardous conditions.

Residents are urged to complete travel and preparations before conditions deteriorate and to monitor official NWS updates for any changes to timing or expected snowfall.
