Detroit, Michigan – Dangerous cold conditions remain across southeast Michigan, with wind chills as low as -25 degrees prompting a Cold Weather Advisory through Saturday morning.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac office, the advisory remains in effect for all of southeast Michigan until 10 a.m. Saturday. Wind chills between -15 and -25 degrees are expected both Friday and early Saturday, with sub-zero values persisting through the advisory period.
Forecasters say the coldest conditions are expected during the early morning hours, particularly between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday, and again from late Friday night into early Saturday morning. The advisory area includes the Detroit metro region and surrounding communities across southeast Michigan.
The National Weather Service warned that cold winds may cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Officials also cautioned that hypothermia is possible if proper precautions are not taken.
Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and ensure hats and gloves are worn when outside. Pet owners are advised to keep animals indoors during the coldest periods.
For commuters and outdoor workers, the prolonged exposure risk is highest during early morning travel hours, when wind chills will be at their lowest.
Weather officials say conditions should gradually improve after the advisory expires Saturday morning.
