Omaha, Nebraska – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Sunday for portions of southeast Nebraska, where accumulating snow is expected to impact travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, snowfall totals between 2 and 4 inches are expected across Saline, Jefferson, Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, and Richardson counties. Communities included in the advisory include Beatrice, Crete, Fairbury, Falls City, Auburn, Tecumseh, and Pawnee City.
Snow is expected to develop Friday evening and continue intermittently through Saturday night. While snowfall amounts are moderate, forecasters warn that roads may become slick, especially during periods of steadier snow and during overnight hours when temperatures are colder.
Travel impacts are most likely Friday evening into Saturday, when snow-covered roads and reduced traction could make driving hazardous. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated rural roads are expected to become slippery first.
Residents are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. Motorists should allow extra stopping distance, reduce speeds, and remain alert for changing road conditions.
Drivers can obtain the latest road conditions by calling 511 or checking state transportation resources before traveling. Officials recommend monitoring forecast updates in case snowfall amounts or timing change.
Commuters, weekend travelers, and residents across southeast Nebraska should prepare for winter driving conditions through early Sunday.
