Macon, Georgia – Drivers across central Georgia should prepare for slick and potentially hazardous roads Sunday morning as light snow moves through the region, creating travel concerns from the early commute into midday.

According to the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from early Sunday morning through midday for parts of central Georgia, including Bibb, Houston, Peach, and Twiggs counties. Snow accumulations between a quarter inch and a half inch are expected, with isolated spots picking up close to an inch.

In Macon, bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads are most likely to become slippery during periods of snowfall. Conditions may improve briefly Sunday afternoon, but officials warn that lingering moisture could refreeze after sunset as temperatures drop, leading to renewed icy patches Sunday night into early Monday.

The advisory stretches south toward Albany and east toward Dublin, where similar accumulations could affect rural highways and county roads. GDOT crews are monitoring conditions, but drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel during snow-covered periods.

Residents should charge mobile devices, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions before heading out. The winter weather advisory remains in effect through midday Sunday, and additional statements could be issued if snow persists or refreezing becomes more widespread overnight.
