Bergen County, NJ – A Palisades Park man has been arrested in connection with a series of dangerous rock-throwing incidents on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities said Thursday.
According to the New Jersey State Police, 40-year-old Hernando Garciamorales was taken into custody earlier today following an investigation into a January 7 motor vehicle incident on the Turnpike northbound near Exit 70 A/B. Police say Garciamorales allegedly threw rocks at passing vehicles, causing damage and endangering drivers.
The arrest followed a coordinated effort between the New Jersey State Police Target Hardening Unit, the Troop “D” Criminal Investigation Office, and several Bergen County agencies, including the Prosecutor’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, and Bogota Police Department. Investigators reportedly found the suspect at a self-made campsite in Old Croaker County Park.
Authorities also linked Garciamorales to similar rock-throwing incidents in Bogota and Bergen County. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Garciamorales remains held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing. Police have not released further information at this time.
