Oklahoma – A cool, gray start greets drivers early, with breath visible and pavement feeling stiff underfoot. That winter edge fades quickly, though, as a powerful warm-up reshapes the first full week of 2026 across central Oklahoma.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, temperatures climb steadily after a chilly start near the mid-30s. South winds strengthen through the day, pushing highs close to 60 by afternoon. Gusts may reach 20 to 25 mph, adding a breezy feel along I-35, I-40, and I-44.

Across Oklahoma City, clouds gradually thin later today, allowing pavement to warm and frost to melt. That meltwater could refreeze after dark in shaded areas, so drivers should remain alert during the evening commute. For now, no winter precipitation is expected.

The warming trend accelerates Monday. Sunshine pushes highs into the low 70s, a dramatic jump for early January. By Tuesday, temperatures peak near 69 under bright skies, making it feel more like early spring than winter. Jackets feel optional by afternoon, though mornings stay cool.

Wednesday remains mild, hovering near 69 again with increasing clouds. Moisture builds late, signaling the next change. By Thursday, rain chances increase, mainly during the morning and midday hours. Wet roads could briefly slow traffic, though wintry impacts remain unlikely.

Meteorologists continue tracking a more active winter pattern later this month across the Midwest and Great Lakes, where heavier snow becomes more likely between January 17 and 30. Oklahoma, for now, stays on the warmer side of the pattern, aligned with above-average temperatures farther south.

Daylight steadily improves as January moves forward. By late month, Oklahoma City gains close to 40 additional minutes of sunlight, easing darker mornings.

Heading out today or early this week? How big does the temperature swing feel where you are?
