Columbia, South Carolina – A cool start to Sunday across the Midlands gives way to a steady and noticeable warmup this week, setting the stage for springlike temperatures by midweek after lingering clouds and patchy fog clear.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, low clouds and areas of fog early Sunday morning should dissipate by midday in most locations, allowing for partial sunshine. Despite brighter skies, temperatures remain on the cool side today, with highs generally in the upper 50s to near 60 across central South Carolina.

The warming trend begins Monday and strengthens through midweek as high pressure settles in and dry weather dominates. Highs climb into the mid-60s Monday, upper 60s Tuesday, and reach the low to mid-70s by Wednesday across the Midlands and the Central Savannah River Area. Overnight lows also trend milder, rising from the 40s early in the week into the 50s by midweek.

Cities including Columbia, Lexington, Orangeburg, Sumter, Newberry, and Aiken will all feel the gradual shift to warmer conditions. Aside from some morning clouds or fog early in the period, sunshine becomes more common as the week progresses.

Rain remains largely absent through Thursday, providing favorable travel and outdoor conditions. The next chance for showers arrives late Thursday night into Friday as a weather system approaches from the west.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy the dry and increasingly warm stretch while staying alert for fog during the morning hours and changes later in the week as rain chances return.
