Medford, Oregon – Heavy mountain snow continues to impact northern California and nearby high terrain in southern Oregon, keeping travel hazardous through Monday night as snow levels remain low and accumulations continue in higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, the heaviest snowfall remains focused on northern California, especially above 5,000 feet, with significant impacts across the Mount Shasta area and higher terrain in western Siskiyou County. While the Cascades are also seeing snowfall, totals there are expected to be lower than locations farther south and east.

Snowfall is expected to continue through Sunday night and again Monday night before tapering off late Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Snow levels are falling to around 4,000 feet overnight and are expected to remain low through Monday night, with some areas briefly dropping as low as 3,500 feet by Monday morning. This will allow snow to reach passes and higher valleys, increasing the risk for slick and snow-covered roads.

Travel remains difficult on mountain highways, with chain controls likely in effect at times, particularly near Mount Shasta, along Interstate 5 through Siskiyou Summit, and on secondary mountain routes. Periods of reduced visibility are expected during heavier snow showers.

Drivers are urged to slow down, carry chains, and check road conditions before traveling through mountain areas. Snowfall should gradually come to an end late Monday night, though icy patches may linger into Tuesday morning even after precipitation tapers. Additional updates are expected as conditions evolve.
